We have always loved France and spent many family holidays here before buying our home at the end of 2001. It was large enough to be transformed into a gîte and bed and breakfast and we made one of the quickest – and best – decisions of our lives. We have never regretted it.
While structurally sound, the house (and garden), were very neglected and required total refurbishment, re-plumbing and rewiring. With a lot of hard work and many local artisans we were ready for our first guests in the gîte at the end of June 2002, and they still come back!
The B & B rooms in the main house were ready by September 2002 but we still continue to find interesting pieces of furniture, pictures and bric-a-brac from local fairs and markets.
Laure is a small, friendly village with 1200 inhabitants many of whom live on the surrounding vineyards. We have the advantage of being rural but also within 10 minutes of the main motorway and twenty minutes from Carcassonne making us an ideal location for visits to the many attractions of the region.
We have a wide range of maps and guidebooks available for guests to borrow and we are happy to provide advice on local markets, Cathar fortresses, beaches, vineyards, abbeys and much more.
